Jordana Mattioli (Bonus! Part 2)

This is a special two-part post. To read part one (in which Jordana describes her morning routine, click here).

Name: Jordana Mattioli, licensed medical esthetician who takes privates appointments within CompleteSkinMD in New York City.

Jordana's Evening Routine: "I like to double cleanse by using an oil cleanser to dissolve the day...

Then I do a second cleanse with a gel or a mild scrub. Cleaning oils really encourage me to massage my skin for a few minutes. I totally take my time with it before wiping it off with a damp washcloth. Even though I skip fragrance in most products, in a cleansing oil I don't mind some essential oils as fragrance since they get removed and not left on the skin. I love MUN Akwi Purifying Cleanser, it feels and smells so nice—it's so luxe, truly makes washing your skin feel like an indulgence. For a light scrub afterwards, One Love Organics Brand New Day or Graydon Superfood Mask + Scrub are both super gentle and leave skin clean but not stripped.

Resurface: I alternate nights using either an AHA or a retinoid. For my retinoid nights, I’ll use Differin Gel on my nose and forehead only and Skin Medica Retinol Complex 0.25 everywhere else. On the AHA nights, I'm very loyal to Drunk Elephant Glycolic Night Serum

Firm: Retinol eye products are the best for preventing wrinkles. I'll use either Environ C-Quence Eye Gel or Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Triple Correction Eye Serum

Hydrate: Once the retinoid or AHA is fully dry (at least 5 min), I'll use one of the same hydrating products mentioned from my morning routine. If I'm feeling really dry after a peel or a laser or just to give my skin a break once a week, I'll skip the retinoid or AHA. Instead I'll slather on TAHNYC Complex B Serum then I'll press on a healing oil: either EarthWise Beauty Ambrosia del Cerrado Liquid Moisturizer or the Kypris Beauty Elixir III

Masks (weekly): I’ll use a clay mask, the Kypris Deep Forest Clay, on my T-zone once a week to absorb excess oil and make my pores look smaller. While the clay is on, I'll use the Kypris Glow Philter on my cheeks and neck. I use eye sheet masks a few times a week, great before going out at night when you need a refresh. At the last Indie Beauty Expo I found my new favorite: Honest Hazel Treatment Eye Gels, and they really work. I store them in the fridge so they go on cold and give me extra de-puffing."

Best self-care advice? "I’m not a morning person but I really want to be. I started using some aromatherapy in the mornings from 21 Drops. On my bedside table I keep a little roll-on of the Invigorate blend and roll it on my wrists and behind my ears before I get out of bed and I swear it helps wake me up. Also, I really make it a point to start my evening skincare routine earlier in the night instead of right before bed so it gets done! "

What other healthy habits are part of your routine? "I'm not super consistent with supplements but when I am, my skin always looks it's best. I'll get probiotics from The Beauty Chef, omegas from Hum Nutrition omegas or Nordic Naturals vegan gels, and an antioxidant/mineral blend from Herbalore Catalyst Gold. When your insides are super healthy, it shows on your skin."

Also, it’s kind of random but I'm particular about bedding for my skin. I never sleep on the same pillowcase more then once. I'll change it every other night and flip it to the clean side in between changing it. Cotton only, and no fabric softeners. My theory is that so much stuff ends up in your hair—airborne stuff and product reside—and then the pillow. Unless you wash your hair every night. But who does that?!
